The Central Coast of California bears a disproportionately high number of rare and endangered plant species. Join us for an exploration of the unique coastal habitats that have led to the rise of this phenomenon, a show and tell of some of the charismatic rare species that call this region home, and a highlight of the work being done to understand and preserve these unique plants.

About the Presenter: Bryce King is a Lead Field Botanist with the California Native Plant Society who previously acted as a laboratory assistant at the UC Davis – USDA Agricultural Research Service laboratory and as a Scientific Aid for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2021 with a BS in Forestry and a minor in Biology. He currently assists with vegetation mapping of the Transverse and Peninsular ranges of California along with collecting data to improve the Manual of California Vegetation classification system.

He has a special fondness for the estuarine and marshland habitats found around where he grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, along with the incredible diversity found within the plethora of unique environments and species found throughout the Central Coast.
